COURSE DESCRIPTION
This class will focus on the artistic possibilities of digital and analog broadcasting technologies. Students will work with homemade analog electronics, re-purposed commercial technologies, as well as open source streaming solutions to explore the potential of the internet and wireless technologies (such as cell phones and netbooks) to propagate creative experimentation with the medium of broadcast.
We will spend at least as much time (if not more) exploring ways to experiment with the technology of distributing information in a way that can be termed Broadcast (whether that be by shouting at a crowd, playing amplified music, using an analog transmitter, streaming on the internet, or sending smoke signals) as we will spend with how to produce content to be broadcast. The point of this class is to demonstrate ways in which the medium of transmission can be used to enhance or transform your existing practice. To that end I expect the products of this class to be very different for each student. There will be at least one opportunity (or requirement depending on your point of view) to present your work to a public audience.
